“Together towards a better future”

RCC “DROM” in cooperation with the Macedonian Government has implemented the project “Together for a better future”
The project aims at improving inter-ethnic coexistence among youth in Kumanovo, and it was implemented within three months.

The project activities were implemented as follows:
Two workshops on “Overcoming interethnic intolerance among young people.”
Organise two “Training for volunteering.”
Printing of flyers;

“Roma mentors”

The main goal of the initiative of Roma mentors is to connect experts of Roma culture in schools and NGO’s or community centers, to ensure that changes in self-awareness and alertness of the children. To increase their knowledge of Roma culture and to ensure childrens opportunities enjoy the contacts with experts.
The project holder is Roma Cultural and Educational Center “Darhija” and it will be implemented September 2009 – June 2010god.
One of the NGOs involved in the project was Roma Community Center “DROM” which gave logistical support to the project which is fully equipped classroom, teacher and volunteer who has experience working with children. Mentor training is provided for 6 hours per month during one school year. Students who are covered in mentor training ar at age 12 – 14god.

“Human rights – based on local economic development”


Association for support of inter-ethnic dialogue and community development “Common Values” from Skopje in cooperation with NGOs: Perspective from Skopje, the Millennium from Vrapciste,DROM Kumanovo and Rekanski Biser Rostuse from Mavrovo were implementing the project “Human Rights – based local economic development. ” The project is funded by the European Union.
The project objective is the realization of human rights and improvement of interethnic relations through the implementation of strategies for local economic development towards faster integration of Macedonia in European Union.

Who are we? What are we?

Projects will be implemented in the period from 01.10.2009 – 01.03.2010. Long term goal is the integration of Roma in all spheres of society.
The project contains a theatrical representation with the title “Who are we? What are we?”
The purpose of this performance is to show the life of Roma by placing emphasis on the right of choice.

Roma culture on the web portal

The project aims at creating a web portal: www.romaculture.com.mk whose purpose is to inform the population of the Republic of Macedonia of the Roma tradition and culture.
The project is implemented in the period from September 2009 – November 2009 with sustainability.

Social inclusion and access to human rights of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians communities Western Balkans

The aim of the project is providing direct support to the Roma population through mediation and obtaining personal documentation, with the financial means for fees that are required to remove them and free legal aid under the project objectives.


Project implementation in the period from January 2010 to December 2010.

RCC “DROM” is an active advocate for more effective implementation of Decade activities in Macedonia. For this purpose there is a need continuous Roma citizens be informed about current activities and opportunities.
RCC “DROM” to annul the needs of its target group – the Roma population in terms of easier integration and updating of their rights and obligations, implemented the project “Roma Information Center” in whose service area is the information of the four domains of acute Decade Roma: education, health, housing and employment.

Bringing young people from different religions


The project aims at humanizing and homogenise the status, religious differentiation, with the young students in Kumanovo from different ethnic backgrounds through socialising, discussing and learning about the religions.
The project was conducted in two phases:


Phase I: Visit to Tatar mosque Sinan Pasha, St. Nicolas Church – Kumanovo by students from different ethnicity, Roma, Macedonians and Albanians.


Phase II: Organizing a panel discussion on “bringing young people from different religions,” 15 Roma, 15 Macedonians, 15 Albanians and 15 of other nationalities: Serbs, Vlachs, Croats and others. The panel speakers were: Proterej of MCC, the Father of the IRC and Priest from KC.

IPA funds, decentralization and the Decade of Roma in it.


The “IPA funds, decentralization and the Decade of Roma in it” will be realized within 01.01.2010 – 01.01.2011god.
Aim of the project is trained representatives from: local government, NGOs and institutions for the decentralization process and the preparation of projects.
Previous activities implemented:
• Meeting the local government of Kumanovo;
• Meetings with previously established a coordinating body composed of representatives from: institutions, local government and NGOs;
• Organized training on “Decentralization”;
• “Debate on IPA funds and opportunities for local economic development”

Togather for the development of the Municipality of Kumanovo.


The project duration is six months and its general objective is to improve inter-ethnic coexistence in the municipality of Kumanovo.The project covers a wider target group as follows: (institutions, NGOs, committees of ethnic communities, students and citizens from the municipality of Kumanovo.) Which is directly involved in: monitoring, educating, informing, raising awareness and inter-religious and inter-cohesion.
Direct results of activities implemented:

  • Prepared newsletter based on monitoring the process of formulating policies in the municipality of Kumanovo area percentage in terms of employment, use of languages and analyzed a number of other problems.
    • Finding a mechanism for starting the work of the Commission actually between communities;
    • Raised awareness among 60 young high school students in the municipality of Kumanovo in terms of multi-ethnic coexistence;
    • Informing the population, NGOs about the Ohrid Framework Agreement and the eradication of misinformation about the same;
    • Informing the citizens of the municipality of Kumanovo of  the three religions and the similarities;
    • Raised awearnes of the population and reduced prejudices compared to other ethnic communities


Indirect results: Enhanced inter-ethnici coexistence in the municipality of Kumanovo
